Black Girls Skate x Last Supper Creating with Purpose: Our Journey to the Black Girls Skate Wheel

This collaboration was deeply personal to us.
At Last Supper, every product we create is more than just gear, it's a reflection of our values, our community, and our story. This wheel, made in collaboration with Black Girls Skate, was no exception. As a women and POC-owned brand, representation isn't a trend, its a commitment and with one of our owners being a Black women, this collab hit close to home.
We knew from the start that this project needed to be authentic intentional and rooted in Black creativity. So Shan Hernandez reached out to a close friend of her's, Nadus, a DJ and creative powerhouse based in New Jersey. He helped us find the perfect artist who embodied what we were looking for. That's how we connected with Jahnia Holterhoff, a multidisciplinary artist whose work beautifully captures the energy, identity and power of Black womanhood.
Jahnia was the perfect match for this vision. Her thoughtful eye and creative voice shaped the look and feel of the wheel and Black Girls Skate brand colors, from the bold artwork to the packaging design. She brought the concept to life in a way that feels genuine, celebratory and rooted in culture. You can explore more of her work at https://itsmejahnia.com/ and see why we were so excited to partner with her.
From the initial concept to the final product, we at Last Supper was behind every step of this collaboration with Black Girls Skate.
We communicated directly with the artist, managed the design process, selected materials and worked closely with our manufacturer to bring the wheel to life. We also held collaborative meetings with DJ and Maria from Black Girls Skate, where we shared our ideas and presented options for the wheel's shape, color and durometer. Their support and feedback were meaningful and we're grateful for the conversations that helped shape this wheel.
This wheel means so much to us. It's not just a product, it's a tribute to Black women in skating and to the power of collaborations rooted in care and respect. We're proud of the energy, creativity and intention poured into every part of this process.
As with everything we do, we believe in giving credit where it's due. From Jahnia, our amazing designer, to DJ and Maria for their support and input, to us at Last Supper and every skater who sees themselves in this wheel, this was a collaboration built with love, purpose and authenticity.
With respect and gratitude,
LJ Salazar and Shan Hernandez
